Charlie was wandering around Niagara Falls, hungry, sick and full of worms. We don’t know how long he had been out there but eventually he found his way to the front door of a lady’s house – an angel. He was taken to the Humane Society and they were told that since he was so deathly ill, he would likely be put down. They asked what it would take for him to be treated while they found him a home: $500, so they raised the money and bought Charlie 2 weeks.
There was something in this dog’s eyes that clearly begged for someone not to give up on him. That is what I saw at 11 pm, the night before he was to be euthanized. I had him 12 hours later! I was so grateful to these women who raised this money so he could be treated while waiting for his new home. But he received NO TREATMENT! He was living on a concrete floor, full of worms, with severe ear infections, desperately thin and beyond itchy. I headed straight for Dr. Fleet’s office for his first chiropractic adjustment. I wanted desperately to pet him, hug him and give him the affection that he craved, but touching him was not an option as it would send him into an itching spell. I then took him to my vet,
Dr. Paul Walker, who was extremely concerned about his future. I said we have to try and that we did. He was
de-wormed and put on antibiotics. His ears were so infected that the crud had filled his canal and was draining down the side of his head. Both were flushed and treated. It was a beginning…
I brought him home and after his medicated bath, he had his first raw meal. Watching him eat was indescribable.
At that point he weighed a mere 61 lbs and had virtually no fur. He couldn’t walk very well because his skin itched so bad. He couldn’t wag his tail because it hurt. The only place I could touch him was between his eyes. He slept
for 2 days!
I have been a raw feeder for many years and I knew if ever there was a food out there that would give him a chance – it would be raw. I did not expect miracles but to my surprise, day 8….he had 2 new hairs on his body. That was 4 years ago and as you can see, with the exception of being deaf, he is now a very healthy boy!
